i got fired from picking cherries, this one time at band camp, when pickers were laid off bc the farm was going broke. man, did that suck. being a lowly fruit-picker i had no house, no savings, food was bought with whatever i earnt that day. Luckily, we had a social net (the dole) which only took 3weeks to come through - a fairly rugged 3 weeks. True story.
but yes, pregnant people get fired alla time, whether they'd had a luxuriant payrate beforehand or not. My goodligosh,there was even a time most recent when women would not admit to pregnancy until it was quite obvious, for that very reason. Another time, not so prior, women weren't even hired bc they may become pregnant...both these things still occur despite workplace legislation.
