just a note: Although Monty posted, this is not Monty, but cohort York St, sth melbourne. Clarification by @ajft / Adrian Tritschler (most appreciated) "Monty takes their heads off, York drowns them” :)
@Amanda Gordon and this was an easy-out one..i'm glad the road was still there and the car wasn't flipped. There are large "road gone now"s around Ballarat and Bendigo which illustrate why we dont drive through floodwaters.
Just look at the photos in the article at https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-17/cost-of-fixing-regional-roads-victorian-floods/101541186, and imagine driving into the flood water that would have hidden that surface. If you can't see the surface of the road underneath the water, don't drive into the water. Even if you can see the surface of the road underneath the water, it's best to not drive into it: just 30cm of water can float a car, and it's also enough to sweep a strong adult off their feet if the water's flowing swiftly enough.
Yeah. It makes me despair for humanity. But then, considering the number of people that voted for Trump to be president of the USA, I can't say that I'm surprised.
The Coalition government had a welder, chef de curry, electrician, pilot, Christmas decoration doer, chookhouse builder, waterboy etc... who saved everyone from skills shortages.
