I used to have an account on joindiaspora.com which was shut down. I even had an account on pod.js.im which seems to have disappeared. I decided to rejoin diaspora because Twitter was recently purchased by some guy who doesn't seem to have the best interest in the public square aspect of it. So I'm glad that this exists. Yeah, I was on pod.js.im too. It just shut down and dissappeared one day. No warning at all. Lost all my data and posts. Then I was on Nota.mn. It just disappeared one day too. Now I'm on br. Wonder when this one will just go away with no warning.
Hi, I was also active on the original diaspora project. Like you I lost everything when they shut down and like you I'm coming back because of the Twitter buy out.
I’m also on mastodon.social with the same handle. Last time I was on diaspora there were no iOS or Android apps, and I haven’t checked yet. I’m disappointed that my old posts from pod.js.im and joindiaspora.com are gone but they aren’t critical.
I’m not sure which open source, decentralized social media platform will become the public square if such a thing is possible, but whatever may happen, there should be some kind of human not algorithmic moderation and codes of conduct. There is a limit to free speech, to tolerance. We cannot be tolerant of the intolerant, say for example, fascists of all stripes.
Welcome, bienvenue, I haven't left Twitter yet but I love this platform and would like to see it replace both Twitter and Facebook. The more the merrier!
As a matter of course I save those messages of mine that I might want to refer to later on my local computer, which also has back-ups. Currently, I am trying to figure out how to delete all my messages on Facebook, and only ever keep up the last two weeks. I call this message hygiene.
